Gail Minault, Board Member and Organizational Historian
When seeking someone to write the history of Chorus Austin for the fiftieth anniversary year, the Chorus turned to Gal Minault, a Professor of History at the University of Texas, and a member of the alto section. She interviewed many long-time singers and consulted the archives of the Chorus that are housed in the Austin History Center. Gail has been a resident of Austin since 1972, and retired from UT after a career of teaching the history of India, in 2014. She hails from Philadelphia, PA, attended Smith College, and received her PhD in South Asian history from the University of Pennsylvania. She was involved in singing in choirs in both high school and college, and when in graduate school, she sang in the Singing City Choir of Philadelphia. The author of several books, Gail is also an avid traveler and has lived in France, India, and Pakistan. Her daughter, a native of India, and her family also live in Austin.
