CHORUS AUSTIN ANNOUNCES 53RD SEASON OF
‘MANY VOICES, ONE WORLD’

Chorus Austin celebrates “Many Voices, One World” with its 53rd season in 2017-2018. Leading the group is Ryan Heller, who will be celebrating his ninth year as Chorus Austin Artistic Director and Conductor.
The 32-voice Chorus Austin Chamber Ensemble opens the season Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 with “The Art of the Prophets,” a concert featuring works by Bach, Schütz, Brahms and Mendelssohn commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.
Chorus Austin’s 180-voice Symphonic Chorus and Chamber Ensemble join for the group’s holiday classic “On a Winter’s Eve” Dec. 2, joined by the Austin Children’s Choir. This family-friendly concert kicks off the holiday season with traditional favorites, audience sing-along and highlighted by Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna. The Symphonic Chorus then follows with the holiday season audience favorite, the 28th annual “Sing-It-Yourself Messiah” on Dec. 16.
The Chamber Ensemble leads off the new year with “Many Voices, One World,” on Feb. 3 and 4, 2018. This concert explores music from a variety of faith and secular traditions with themes that unite us.
The Symphonic Chorus gathers its forces, soloists and orchestra for Haydn’s hymn to Mary, the sorrowful mother of Jesus, standing at her son’s crucifixion in Stabat Mater on April 21 and 22, 2018.
“Southwest Voices,” on May 5 and 6, 2018, highlights composers from Austin and around Texas, many premiering their works, plus the winner for the fifth annual Chorus Austin Young Composers Competition.
